NA, a 35-year-old employee at an office in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, left work at 10:30 pm on Friday.
She got on a D-01 Ciputat – Kebayoran Angkot minivan to make her way home to Pasar Rebo. NA, who was the only passenger in the minivan, sat next to the driver in the front seat.
She asked to be dropped off at the Lebak Bulus junction, but the driver, 21-year-old DAS, said he’d take her to the Fatmawati junction, which would’ve been more convenient for NA.
But on quiet Jalan TB Simatupang, DAS stopped the minivan right next to a flyover pillar, so NA couldn’t open the passenger door.
“That’s when the rape happened in the minivan,” said South Jakarta Police Chief Wahyu Hadiningrat, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.
DAS eventually stopped his sexual assault when a motorcycle drove close to the minivan. He let NA go and drove away.
NA then hailed a taxi to report the crime immediately to the police.
Luckily, the police managed to track down DAS in Jalan Ciputat Raya on Saturday. He is now under police custody, and could face up to 12 years in prison.
