Yes, the rumours are true. There are underground chicken fights going on in Jakarta. And somebody broke the first rule of chicken fight club, apparently.
Yesterday afternoon, Central Jakarta Police officers busted up a cockfighting ring taking place in the backyard of an empty building on Jalan Kwitang Raya in Senen. A total of 60 gamblers were arrested during the raid. Police also seized 50 fighting cocks and tens of millions of rupiah in gambling money.
“The raids was conducted at 2:00 pm by deploying a number of members of the Central Jakarta Police Narcotics Unit. A total of 60 gamblers were arrested. Investigations were carried out over the last two days,” said Central Jakarta Police Superintendent JR Sitinjakas according to a Jakarta Police press release.
Officers seized cash amounting to Rp 43 million. The gamblers face up to 10 years in prison.
