Chinese man jumps to his death as police conduct cyber crime raid

The Jakarta Police carried out a series of raid operations in Jakarta over the past few days. One of them resulted in the death of a Chinese national yesterday.

Police conducted a cyber crime raid in a large house in East Cilandak, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta yesterday where 33 Chinese nationals were staying. All of the house’s occupants were apparently taking part in an online fraud scheme.

During the raid, one of the suspects died after trying to run away.

“Yes, one person died. He died because he jumped from the 2nd floor of that house as he tried to escape the raid,” said Herry Heryawan of the Public Crime Investigation Unit at the Jakarta Police, as quoted by Vivanews today.

The victim was identified as 25-year-old Siau Pei. His body was taken to Kramat Jati Police Hospital in East Jakarta.

19 of the arrested cyber crime suspects were male, and 14 were female. They were all Chinese nationals.

The police didn’t reveal what their online fraud scheme was.
