Police: Drowned Universitas Indonesia student’s suicide was faked, he was murdered

The Depok police have finally made some headway into the case of Akseyna Ahad Dori, who was found drowned in Lake Kenanga in Universitas Indonesia (UI) campus on March 26. Police say that they have determined that his death was caused by murder, not suicide.

The police have so far struggled to collect evidence to support suspicions that Akseyna committed suicide. They also believe that the strongest piece of evidence that suggested suicide, a handwritten suicide note, was actually forged, according to their handwriting experts.

“Even though we’re short on evidence, we found the turning point in this case that suggests Akseyna was murdered,” said Depok Police Chief Ahmad Subarkah, as quoted by Warta Kota yesterday.

“We’re still investigating. The investigation is going towards that route (murder).”

Though the police didn’t reveal what new evidence they found to support their suspicion for murder, they did previously find signs of blunt force trauma on Akseyna’s body, which was highly irregular for a suicide case.

Akseyna was found dead after he drowned in Lake Kenanga on March 26. He was wearing a backpack filled with large stones to weigh him down in the water. Until yesterday, the police couldn’t determine whether Akseyna’s death was a suicide or a homicide.
