Freddy Budiman, a drug kingpin who is currently in Cipinang Prison awaiting the death penalty, apologized to the public for spreading of a new type of drug, CC4, which is said to be 10 times more powerful than ecstasy.

During a televised interview with TV One today, Freddy apologized to the public for his actions.

“I apologize to the people of Indonesia for not supporting the government’s program to eradicate drugs,” Freddy said, as quoted by Vivanews

“I acted for my own benefit. For that, I am sorry.”

Freddy explained that he had no choice but to go back in business while he’s currently behind bars in order to provide for his family.

“They don’t have anybody else but me to [provide] for them,” he said.

This is further proof that the death penalty is not necessarily an effective deterrent for drug trafficking in Indonesia, as we are seeing time and time again drug traffickers getting arrested despite the harsh punishment.
