We thought the bird flu had gone for good, but it appears the H5N1 virus has made a comeback after claiming the lives of two people, a man and his child, in Tangerang this week.

The two victims, identified by their initials N (40) and M (2), tested positive for the H5N1 virus before they died.

“The two died a couple of days ago. The father, N, died on March 25, whereas the child died on March 26. They were buried in Selapajang Cemetery,” said Iis Aisyah Rodiah, head of the Agricultural Security Agency in Tangerang, as quoted by Warta Kota today.

It is strongly suspected that the two died as a direct result of contracting the bird flu.

The Agricultural Security Agency in Tangerang is now cleaning up traditional markets and the surrounding areas to help prevent a bird flu outbreak.
