We’ve often seen or read stories about Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama shouting at inept subordinates or officials for not doing their jobs right. But it’s not everyday we get to see Ahok in a heated argument with a citizen – and it’s caught on camera.
In the above video, Ahok was just about to depart City Hall to go blusukan with President Joko Widodo yesterday (when he was initially stood up by the president). But a man who was pushing an old woman in a wheelchair appeared in front of Ahok’s car and demanded to speak with the governor.
According to Kompas, the man complained that a hospital is being built on his land in Puri Indah, West Jakarta. But Ahok told the man that a land dispute should be taken to court, not the provincial government.
Unsatisfied with Ahok’s answer, the man lost his temper and accused Ahok and the government of not wanting to help its citizens. As you can see in the video at 00:21, Ahok also loses his cool and says, “[Wait until] Ahok becomes president and I’ll take care of it.”
As Ahok returned to the car, the man refused to leave his spot right in front of the governor’s car. This prompted Ahok to confront the man once more and angrily slam the hood of his car.
Ahok’s security detail eventually managed to clear the man and the old woman in the wheelchair away from Ahok’s car’s path.
