Hundreds of Lion Air passengers had to spend the start of the Chinese New Year holiday at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport this afternoon instead of their chosen destinations. Lion Air has not been able to fix whatever problems they are having that have caused flight delays since yesterday.
Airport management PT Angkasa Pura II is predicting that there will be even more delays for Lion Air today as a result of yesterday’s delays.
“We’re still coordinating [with Lion Air] about this, and we’re predicting that today’s delays will still happen as an effect of the delays yesterday,” said PT Angkasa Pura II Director Budi Karya Sumadi this afternoon, as quoted by Metro TV.
In Terminal 1 alone, Lion Air sent out five massively delayed flights today that were supposed to have taken off yesterday.
PT Angkasa Pura II is urging Lion Air passengers to double check their flight schedules in case of revisions in order to prevent overcrowding at the airport.
The Chinese New Year holiday is a relatively short one so stranded passengers are wasting precious time waiting for their flights at the airport. PT Angkasa Pura II hopes Lion Air will give proper compensation to passengers who had to experience long delays.
Lion Air, however, has remained tight-lipped on the matter.
“We hope the rights of passengers are realized by the airline in accordance to the law,” Budi said.
