It has only been a few months since they both worked together in the Jakarta City Hall, but President Joko Widodo and Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama are having a small reunion today doing what the president loves most: blusukan.

Governor Ahok is scheduled to conduct impromptu field visits with President Jokowi at 1 pm today. The Minister of Public Works (PU), Basuki Hadimuljono, will also tag along.

Ahok said he would discuss with the president and the minister matters regarding the provincial government’s taking over the management of the city’s rivers and water pump units.

“We want to check. If PU wants to hand over all of the rivers and water pumps to us, then we’ll have to check them all,” Ahok said at City Hall this morning, as quoted by Merdeka

Who knows, perhaps if the provincial government had total control of the city’s water systems, then they could have prevented the “sabotage” that led to the embarrassing flood in front of the State Palace earlier this month.
