“Pil biru” store raided by the police in Jatinegara

One of the drugs confisicated from the store. We censored the naughty bits but you can see the uncensored box on Kompas (seriously)

You’ve surely seen the shops or stalls on the side of the road with words like ‘pil biru’, ‘obat kuat’ and even ‘obat macho’ adorning their signs. Selling cheap knockoff versions of the original “male enhancement pill” viagra, as well as other medicines meant to put more yin in your yang, these stores are plentiful and out in the open enough that you might assume what they sold was technically legal.

Not the case it seems. One such blue pill shop in Cipinang Cimpedak, Jatinegara, was raided by the police today for selling illegal drugs and contraceptives and not having a proper license.

The store, called Asesonic, belonged to a 35-year-old man police are identifying as NCA. When police conducted the raid, the owner of the shop was not there, just a shopkeeper who was unable to show them any business license to sell pharmaceuticals of any kind.

The village head of Cipinang Cimpedak, Bambang Novianto, said based on examinations by the village doctor, Asesonic was peddling powerful drugs that had already expired. In addition, they had no health certificate from BPOM, Indonesia’s Food and Drug Administration.

“Many have already expired. These [drugs] are from 2006. We asked if they had a license to sell it, he could not show it,” Bambang said this afternoon as quoted by Kompas.

According to Bambang, the shopkeeper had no idea how powerful and dangerous some of the drugs he was selling actually were. Some of the items police were said to have confiscated from the store are viagra, tablet perkasa (mighty pills) and something called “sex drops”.

Police took the illegal items from the store but did not arrest the store clerk. Instead they plan on coming back to the store tomorrow to ask the owner to show his permits. If he can’t, they’ll shut the store down permanently.
