Impressed with the app, Governor Ahok to meet with Go-Jek executives today

The recently launched Go-Jek app has already impressed a lot of Jakartans (it made our list of ’24 free smartphone apps that will make your life in Jakarta easier and awesomer’). As it turns out, Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama is such a big fan of the app that he wants to meet with Go-Jek’s founder Nadiem Makarim and its executives today.

Ahok said he wants to meet with the people of Go-Jek to learn more about the ojek-ordering app and discuss possibilities for future collaborations.

“I’m working them into my schedule. The ojek is a good form of feeder transportation, as long as it doesn’t go into the center of the city,” Ahok said at City Hall today, as quoted by Kompas

Ahok said he hopes that one day all ojek drivers will operate under Go-Jek’s management. He believes that ojek drivers unwilling to join Go-Jek will eventually go bankrupt and we’ll be left with only properly regulated ojeks in the city.

“The ojek has officially become part of the city’s public transportation. So there’s no need to tax them even more, just make them join Go-Jek. Later they (Go-Jek) can develop naturally and we can help their management of ojeks,” Ahok said.

This would be a massively lucrative deal for Go-Jek. But we’re for it as long as Go-Jek can continue to provide convenient, safe and timely service after their potential expansion.
