No Mo’ Rail: Jakarta administration to end contract with PT Jakarta Monorail

These unfinished monorail structures are PT Jakarta Monorail’s legacy to Jakarta

It looks like we won’t be seeing the monorail in Jakarta anytime soon. At least, not the monorail PT Jakarta Monorail (JM) was supposed to have built a long time ago.

The Jakarta Provincial Government is planning a strategy to terminate the working contract they have with JM to build the monorail in Jakarta.

After an internal meeting at City Hall on Friday, Jakarta Regional Secretary Saefullah hinted that the administration has had enough.

“It looks like it’s over [the contract with PT JM]. It means this cooperation cannot be continued,” Saefullah said, as quoted by Warta Kota on Sunday.

The administration’s legal team is currently putting together the contract termination.

“It’s under concept, it’s almost done. There’s a lawyer so we won’t have problems with the one-way termination,” Saefullah said.

“They (JM) asked for a meeting first. I said just give them the letter [of termination]. They were told to work [to build the monorail] but they never did.”

Previously, Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama expressed that he wants to open a new tender to continue Jakarta’s mismanaged monorail project.
