Pondok Indah traffic crash suspect tests positive for LSD consumption

Many of us were wondering what possessed 23-year-old Christopher Daniel Sjarif to drive a Mitsubishi Outlander into multiple vehicles, killing four motorists. The result of a drug test done by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) revealed that Christopher was, in fact, under the influence of LSD during the time of the incident.

“Yes, he tested positive [for drugs consumption],” said Martinus Sitompul, head of public relations at the South Jakarta Police, as quoted by Warta Kota Wednesday evening.

While Christopher tested positive for the hallucinogen, Martinus said Christopher was not driving under the influence of alcohol.

The police revealed that Christopher and his friend, Muhammad Ali Husni Riza (22), consumed LSD at around 5:30pm on Tuesday. They then went to Pacific Place in SCBD to watch a movie.

They were then going to be driven home in Muhammad Ali’s white Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by his driver Ahmad Sandi Illahi. Ahmad was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

In the middle of the drive home, Christopher and Muhammad Ali got into a heated argument. Muhammad Ali was dropped off at Melawai, South Jakarta, while Ahmad went on to drive Christopher to his home in Pondok Pinang, South Jakarta.

Christopher and Ahmad also got into an argument while the car was passing through Jalan Sultan Iskandar Muda, heading towards Jalan Arteri Pondok Indah. Christopher choked Ahmad from the backseat, at which point Ahmad stopped the car and got out.

After resuming control of the car, Christopher went on to crash into multiple vehicles. Four people were killed and two were hospitalized.

Before the results of the drug test came back, Christopher was already charged with traffic violations leading to the death of others, crimes which carries a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison. It remains to be seen whether the sentence will be increased now that Christopher tested positive for LSD consumption.
