Organda Jakarta introduces new public transport fares following fuel price reduction

Following the government’s fuel price reduction which came into effect yesterday, the organization of land vehicles (Organda) in Jakarta held a meeting with Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and the Jakarta Transportation Agency at City Hall yesterday to discuss new public transportation fares.

Organda has agreed to decrease public transportation fares for all of its public transportation vehicle types.

“[These new] tariffs were set after the fuel price reduction on January 19, 2015,” said Sahfruhan Sinungan, Chairman of Organda Jakarta, as quoted by Merdeka yesterday.

These are the changes to public transportation fares put forward by Organda (fare per trip):

  • Medium bus with AC decreased from Rp 7,500 to Rp 7,000
  • Large bus with AC decreased from Rp 9,500 to Rp 9,000
  • Small bus (angkot minivans) decreased from Rp 4,000 to Rp 3,500
  • Low taxi tariff: Rp 7,500 for flag fall; Rp 4,000 for every km; Rp 45,000 per hour for standby
  • High taxi tariff: Rp 8,000 for flag fall; Rp 4,600 for every km; Rp 45,000 per hour for standby

Meanwhile, Governor Ahok said the central government’s policy of revising fuel prices every two weeks could prove problematic for public transportation services setting their fares in the future.

“It’s troublesome. The government should make the policy to subsidize Rp 1,000 [per liter of fuel]. If they subsidize Rp 100, then [fuel prices] will fluctuate. We’d have to adjust [public transportation] fares every two weeks,” Ahok said.
