Police Commissioner General Budi Gunawan, President Joko Widodo’s sole candidate to become the National Police chief
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has dropped a bombshell, just days after President Joko Widodo put forward Police Commissioner General Budi Gunawan’s name as the sole candidate to replace General Sutarman as the chief of the National Police.
Budi Gunawan was named a corruption suspect by the KPK after the commission found two pieces of evidence regarding Gunawan’s suspiciously ‘bloated’ bank account.
“Comm General BG is a suspect of the anti-corruption court (Tipikor) from when he was the head of the Career Development Bureau,” said KPK Chief Abraham Samad at a press conference today, as quoted by Detik.
Samad said investigators found irregularities in Gunawan’s bank account. The KPK has been on his tail since July 2014.
Budi Gunawan, who was an aide to former President Megawati Soekarnoputri, has not yet released a statement regarding the recent turn of events. It remains to be seen how President Joko Widodo will react to what some are calling a huge blunder on his part for nominating Gunawan as National Police chief.
