Pornhub is the largest pornography site on the Internet, with 78.9 billion of its videos viewed in 2014. The site just released a set of data revealing the world’s porn viewing trends throughout last year. To our surprise, Indonesia – where Internet porn is supposed to be censored – almost topped one of the categories.
Sure, we weren’t among the top 20 overall porn viewers in the world, but it seems we loved to watch porn on the go in 2014. Indonesia ranked second (behind Turkey) as the country with the largest increase in mobile traffic share, with a staggering 457% increase compared to 2013.
Does this signify a failure in the government’s censorship of Internet porn? Perhaps there are still ways around porn censorship on mobile devices that the government has overlooked so far.
All we know is, whatever kind of censorship the government throws at porn, Indonesian cunning and determination will win out in the end. We wouldn’t be surprised if Indonesia continues to become a major contributor to Pornhub’s audience – and indeed, other adult websites – in the coming years.
