Vice President Jusuf Kalla leads Basarnas search for Air Asia QZ8501, finds similarities to previous Adam Air plane crash

Vice President Jusuf Kalla is in the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) headquarters to lead search efforts for the missing Air Asia flight QZ8501.

Kalla arrived at the headquarters at around 16:30 PM and headed straight to the control room in the 14th floor.

He was then briefed by the Basarnas head of the Planning and Communications Systems Development sub division, Barokna.

“So [the plane] just lost contact [with air traffic control] just like that? Why do loss of contacts usually happen?” JK asked Baroknya, as heard by MetroTVNews

“Maybe because of failures to the plane’s communication systems, or maybe the plane fell,” Barokna replied.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla said he saw similarities in today’s events to that of a crashed Adam Air flight in 2007.

The Adam Air flight 574 disappeared after it took off from Surabaya, heading to Manado, North Sulawesi, on January 1, 2007. The plane’s black box was located off the coast of West Sulawesi on January 21, 2007, at a water depth of 2,000 meters. All 102 people on board died.
