‘RW’, a 27-year-old who works in Mega Kuningan, was mugged by a taxi driver and his two accomplices in a cab in Kuningan, South Jakarta. The three men threatened the woman into giving them her mobile phone and some money.

“I got in the cab in the Mega Kuningan area on Friday at 11pm. I got in a white cab. I usually take cabs from the same company,” RW said today, as quoted by Detik.com

RW, who sat in the backseat, was shocked to find that the seat was pushed forward and someone emerged from the trunk behind her.

“All of a sudden the seat leaned forward and someone came out. I screamed reflexively. He reached into his pocket like he was about to take out a knife, but he didn’t take out anything and just said, ‘give me your mobile phone.’ He also demanded money, but I didn’t have my wallet on me at the time, I only had Rp. 80 thousand in cash. He demanded my ATM card, but then the cab stopped in front of Mall Ambasador. Another man entered the cab and sat in the front. He grabbed my purse and searched the contents. They grabbed my hair and threatened to kill me if I screamed,” RW recalled of the horrifying events.

“The driver asked his friends where he should drive to where there would be no police. The cab drove around narrow roads in Kuningan. Then the cab stopped in the Guru Mugeni area, which is still in Kuningan. The one who sat in the front got out of the car with my ATM card. The cab resumed driving around and then went back [to pick up the man at the ATM]. He gave me the ATM receipt. He took out Rp. 1 million and left me Rp. 300 thousand.”

After taking the money and two mobile phones, a Blackberry and an iPhone, the suspects dropped RW in a quiet area in Cikini, Central Jakarta.

“When they dropped me off, they threatened to shoot me if I screamed. They said they have already been in prison four times,” RW said.

RW reported the incident to the Setiabudi Police Department in South Jakarta. She also noted the taxi’s registration number. It’s not yet known whether a genuine taxi picked her up or if the suspects stole the taxi.
