President Joko Widodo and first Lady Iriana Widodo are flying economy class to Singapore to attend the graduation ceremony of their youngest son, Kaesang Pangarep. Not only that, Jokowi and his entourage sat on the tail end of their Garuda Indonesia flight.

According to Detik, Jokowi arrived at Terminal 2E at Soekarno-Hatta Airport this afternoon. Other passengers quickly crowded around Jokowi, most of them asking for selfies.

But just like a regular citizen, Jokowi went through the airport’s security checks and put his belongings through the x-ray machines before queuing up with other passengers to check in.

Jokowi also refused to wait for his flight in a VIP lounge.

Jokowi and his entourage then boarded the plane. He and his wife were assigned seats 44A and 44B in economy class, though it looks like he bought out the whole row as well as the rows surrounding him for his security detail and personal assistants.

Indonesia’s new president is known for his humble, down-to-earth style. While he was the governor of Jakarta, he once told reporters “My shirt cost only Rp 100,000 [US$8.40] and my shoes Rp 120,000.”
