President Joko Widodo and his family will fly to Singapore tomorrow to attend the high-school graduation ceremony of his youngest son, Kaesang Pangarep. President Jokowi planned for the family to fly coach with a commercial airline.
Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto said President Jokowi decided to fly with a commercial line because the graduation ceremony is an event outside of state affairs.
“Yes [they’ll fly economy class]. Because the graduation ceremony in Singapore is a private event,” Andi said at the State Palace today, as quoted by Merdeka.com.
Andi did not reveal which airline will fly the first family to Singapore. He did confirm, however, that in line with the presidential protocol, a small group of personal assistants and bodyguards will travel with President Jokowi’s family.
“This is not a [VVIP] flight. This is Pak Jokowi traveling as Joko Widodo, not as the president,” Andi said.
Andi added that once in Singapore, all presidential protocol would not apply. There also won’t be a proper state welcome from Singapore.
“Yes Singapore will welcome [Jokowi] but it will just be a courtesy welcome. There won’t be a state welcome. They’re going to stay at a hotel, though the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore has offered Jokowi to stay at the ambassador’s home, but pak president hasn’t made a decision on that,” Andi said.
President Jokowi and his family are scheduled to return to Jakarta on Saturday morning.
