FPI threatens to appoint their own “counter governor” if Ahok gets sworn in

At the end of their “1 Million People Called to Action” protest (that was attended by a small fraction of 1 million people), Habib Rizieq of the hardline Islamic Defenders Front (FPI)  said the organization would elect there own “counter governor” if Acting City Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama gets sworn in as Governor of Jakarta.

Habib claims Muslims in Jakarta are against Ahok become the number one in the capital. “Muslims are not pleased with Ahok becoming the leader of Jakarta. We will continue to protest if we need to make the head of GMJ (Peoples Movement of Jakarta), KH. Fahrurrozy Ishaq, into the counter governor,” Rizieq said over a loudspeaker while addressing the assembled FPI horde protesting Ahok in front of City Hall today.

He also said that the streets will be filled with a sea of people in Jakarta if Ahok becomes governor. “If the President and the Minister of Home Affairs remain determined to  Inaugurate Ahok, I guarantee the streets of Jakarta will be filled with flocks of people. Each day there will be a demo until Ahok steps down,” Rizieq said at the end of FPI’s protest at City Hall.

Rizieq said Ahok did not deserve to lead the Muslim majority in Jakarta. Therefore, he believes there is no way for the Christian, Chinese Indonesian to lead the capital.

After protesting since early morning at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout before continuing to the Parliament Building and City Hall, the FPI protest ended at about 1:20 pm. The hardline group’s leaders said they would continue to take action until Ahok stepped down from all leadership positions in Jakarta.
