The Ministry of Tourism is moving quickly to increase the number of foreign tourists coming to our shores. One of the ways they are doing that is by giving free visas to tourists from five countries starting in 2015.
The five countries are China, Japan, South Korea, Russia and Australia. The announcement of the visa waivers was made by Tourism Minister Arief Yahya at a meeting concerning tourist visa extensions and boat tour licensing. The other policy discussed at the meeting was the simplification of licensing for tourist boats and yachts.
“Those countries are our main targets for visiting foreign tourists. As the Chinese middle class is growing, so is its potential for us,” said Arief at the Sapta Pesona Building on Jl Medan Medeka Barat today, as quoted by Detik.
By making the tourist visa free, the ministy expects to see more and more foreign tourists coming to Indonesia. The plan is for this policy to be immediately implemented starting in 2015.
“We expect the free visas we will become effective in January 2015,” Arief promised.
