This guy bought Google Adwords for every member of Jokowi’s new cabinet

One of the fundamental facts about the digital age is that, even though we can look up information about almost any topic we can think of, we all still spend a large amount of time Googling ourselves.

Harryadin Mahardika, who regards himself as a “cosmo-socialist” with a focus on the Indonesian marketing landscape, decided to take advantage of this fact to do a little online experiment on President Joko Widodo’s new cabinet members

On his website, Harry says, “I’m currently doing a risky (hahaha) Google Ad experiment on Indonesia’s Cabinet members. I’m purchasing their name on Google Adwords (there are 34 of them). Hopefully when they’re googling their name (everyone does it, even the ministers), they will see my ads on their computer screen.”

One examples of Harry’s Adwords campaigns, this one targeted at National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Minister Andrinof A. Chaniago.

So what is Harry hoping to accomplish by getting the minister’s attention in this unconventional fashion?

“So basically I say ‘hi’ to them in the ad, and congratulate them for being chosen as a minister (cabinet member). I also remind them of our high expectation,” Harry explains on his site.

And perhaps getting a little attention for his own website? Well, either way, we’re interested to see the results.
