FPI Member Sexually Harasses Journalist at Anti-Ahok Rally

What did the hardline Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) manage to accomplish during their protest yesterday against incoming Governor Basuki “Ahok” Purnama Tjahaja? Well, beside the usual angry yelling, chanting and sign waving, one of their members was also caught sexually harassing a female journalist.

The reporter from Tempo, who was identified with the initial P, said the incident occurred when she was jostling among dozens of FPI sympathizers. Suddenly, she realized a middle-aged man was holding her hips from behind. Suddenly alone, P was shocked by the man’s behavior. 

Later, the man was identified as a sympathizer of extremist mouthpiece KH Muhammad Ali Khaththath of the Islamic Peoples Forum (FUI). 

A long debate ensued between P and the man she accused of the indecent act. The man dismissed P’s allegation and by saying he was just moving her to the side so he could greet Ali Khaththath. 

“Pak, honestly, don’t try to dodge this. It’s called harassment, pak,” P said, denouncing the man. 

The heated debate was finally broken up by the police, who were afraid P’s actions could create a bigger conflict amongst the crowd. As a result, P had to back down, crying as she recounted what happened to her fellow journalists.
